Barriers EP

For Birmingham born singer-songwriter and beatboxer Ed Geater, rhythmical strength is complemented by lyrical prowess.

Now under management, Ed signed his first record deal in 2015 with Music Mandi, an independent label based in London. It was Ed's exhilarating performance at the 'Phoenix Sessions' (a discovery platform for unsigned artists) in London, that caught the attention of label owner Jataneel Banerjee, who promptly signed him to his roster.

After putting pen to paper, Ed immediately hit up Birmingham’s Univibe Audio studio with engineer Elliot Vaughan. The results are eight fresh tracks recorded in one four day session, which will be released as a series of two EPs in 2016 on Music Mandi.

The first offering is ‘Barriers EP’, spearheaded by lead single and video ‘Don’t Think’, a drum and bass infused hook laden anthem, with the lyrical content reflecting on one’s introspection in contrast to the reality of the outside world.

EP opener, ‘The Joy Thief’, personifies the act of comparing yourself with others, inevitably inhibiting your ability to be true to yourself. The lyrics sit above a beautifully textured acoustic laden trip-hop groove.

After the energy of Don’t Think, soothing instrumental Vilcabamba Moonlight, inspired by Ed’s time in the evergreen Ecuadorian valley, instils an imprint of pastoral beauty on the listeners mind. The break-down section enables Geater to showcase his beatboxing virtuosity with a flurry of mesmerising rhythms.

The EP is closed by break-up inspired lyrical ballad, Steady Strides. Delivering a stunning vocal performance, Ed contemplates whether ‘our love’s no longer strong’, building to a climatic end of hope for the future, declaring that ‘You and I are still to find our steady strides’.

With ‘Barriers EP’ the start of an exciting journey as a signed artist, 2016 is set to be the year of real growth for Ed Geater. We suggest you get on board.
