Aimless Survivor (bandcamp)

In Oktober 2018, I committed myself to an immersive recording experience, spending 8 days living and working out of 'The Ark' studio in deepest Tempelhof. A new song was presented each day, tracked live to tape, with engineers David Terry and Andres Barlesi on drums and bass respectively, and then overdubbed with multiple instrumentation.

This creative incubation was necessary to mirror the thematic threads at play within the material. The songs mine issues of identity and ecological imbalance, cultural unease and self-evolution. There is a mix of melancholy, pathos, absurd humor and surrealism; at one point I portray a mute Japanese boy from the 6th century.

The title track reflects on a life without a sense of propulsion, or more dismally, the notion of propulsion with no projection - the Sisyphean struggle - while emotional touchstone, A Fist Of It, is a simple and stark personal summation. Both these pieces traverse my state of mind and land on points of need and desire, of self-doubt and acceptance. They pulse with immediacy and bulge with half a lifetime of memory and character, spilling into the here and now.

In the songs found on the EP is a ready document of my life over a 12 month period, the internal and external are both honestly captured and poetically enhanced.
