"In 1980, a chance meeting with then guitar-player Carlo Ditta, and a subsequent jam at the Beat Exchange, a New Orleans new wave/punk hang-out, was the origin for a recording project that would, ten years later, turn out to be crucial for Willy DeVille’s career. Through the 80s, the two met again; in New York City, while Willy was preparing his "Where Angels Fear to Trade” album for Atlantic Records; then back in New Orleans where DeVille had finally moved, after a difficult business experience following his latest A & M album.
An upcoming European tour in the fall of 1990 and the necessity to release a new record quickly, caused Willy and Carlo to join forces and produce "Victory Mixture” for Philippe Lebras’ Parisian-based Sky Ranch Records. The common ground this time was their mutual love for New Orleans Rhythm and Blues of the 50s and 60s. Carlo pulled out his rare New Orleans record collection and little gems by Eddie Bo, Ernie K-Doe, Willie Tee, Oliver Morgan, and many others, ended up getting a second chance through DeVille’s soulful new rendering."
